Mason sand is a fine, clean, washed sand used for mortar, stucco and setting brick and block, and the same material is sold as K5 septic sand for the filter layer in septic system installations. Because it is screened so fine and clean, it is also the sand to use in sandboxes and under above-ground pools where you want a smooth, soft surface.
